|  ' Slams bedroom door ' Turns music on full blast ' Screams into pillow 'Buries feelings in duvet' "What's she doing?" … "Oh she's just going for a Teenage Swim." - Eve Rakow on ‘Teenage Swim’ The Frown is a creative force of music, production and design fronted by the dynamic Eve Rakow. Klein Baas, The Frown’s composer slash producer makes up the other half of this multi-talented duo. They took the South African music scene by storm in 2011 with their indie track ‘The National’ off their critically acclaimed debut release ‘A-men’. They're an act with their fingers on the pulse; dedicated to delivering their audio visual dose of electro, dance infused pop.
Die Antwoord were so impressed with The Frown they asked them to open for them at shows. Indie trendsetter and hit machine Spoek Mathambo collaborated with them and they have also enjoyed countless remix attention on many of their compositions by a wide range of credible music tastemakers including Petite Noir.
With a heavy dose of media attention the band remains at the forefront of the indie/electro scene and 2012 - 2013 saw the launch of four hot new singles with accompanying videos “Metallic Kiss”, “Dark Art”, “727” and most recently "Harm" as well as an extensive touring schedule that included performances at Oppikoppi, Ramfest, Music in the Gardens, Splashy Fen and more. They also received two MK Award Nominations for their video for 'The National' including a nomination for Best Video.
The Frown reveals their much anticipated new album “Teenage Swim” June 2013 and will tour South Africa in support of the release kicking off with their Johannesburg launch at Kitcheners in Braamfontein on Thursday 27 June. They will also make their international debut on several compilation releases, a podcast by BBC6 radio’s Nick Luscombe and more during the course of this year and strong international interest may also see them tour those territories very soon.
“Wear leather... start fights... dance to techno... stay out all night” - Klein Baas on ‘Teenage Swim’
SELECT PRESS QUOTES: “Those fertile crosswinds blowing through South Africa’s urban centers that produced Spoek Mathambo and Die Antwoord have spawned yet another exquisite monstrosity. Johannesburg electronic pop group The Frown has the visionary freakyness and Mathambian half-legible subtexts, but they take a more laid back approach to chilling the blood” - Beverly Bryan - MTViggy.com “The music is faultless, replete. Tasteful atmospherics, immaculate programming, sly borrowing and, at last, the forswearing of self-conscious hipster coterie-servicing in exchange for grace, power, conviction and something we may as well call emotion … I’m overwhelmed.” - Brandon Edmonds - Mahala.co.za
“I don’t know how or when The Frown got so big, but they have ballooned into a mythical creature that must be captured and tasted and consumed upon the faintest hint of capture. Their uneasiness and enigmatic affect have launched them to cult status” - DontParty.co.za QUICK FACTS:
